Dr. Chevez’s research and
work have focused on themes of intersectionality, equity, education/professional training, social determinants of health, and substance use among communities that have been marginalized.  He has a wide range of experience in providing services for populations that have been disproportionately impacted by HIV/AIDS, domestic violence, immigration issues, tobacco
dependence, and opioid use disorder. 

Jose Alberto Cruz Chevez

Dr. Chevez’s research and

Emilia received an MSW from Virginia Commonwealth University and is now a faculty member with IFS currently receiving Post Graduate Training.

Rhea V. Almeida, MS, Ph.D., LCSW, founder of IFS, is a family therapist and Columbia Graduate. She has over 30 years experience as a trainer, therapist, activist, and author.

A previous recipient of Therapist of The Year with The Essential Piece Award, Dr. Eunjung Ryu has over 20 years of clinical experience working with families. In this time she has presented nationally and internationally on domestic and community violence, and transformative family therapy.

With a master’s degree in Human Development and Family Studies from Texas Tech University and a doctorate in Child Development and Family Studies/Marriage and Family Therapy from Purdue University, Dr. Carolyn Tubbs has researched and worked with many different topics including intimate partner violence, health care disparities, mental and physical health issues, parenting in low-income populations, and many others.

Dr. Quiñones’ clinical interests are centered on gender issues and gender inequality, social power differentials, intersectionality and mind/body issues. She is currently a staff clinical psychologist at the Veterans Hospital in San Juan, Puerto Rico.
