Jose Alberto Cruz Chevez received his BA from Cornell University, and his MSW, MBA, and PhD
from Rutgers University. Dr. Chevez is an LCSW and a clinical supervisor. He completed his
post-graduate training at IFS, provided clinical services to families and assisted in establishing
“Progresando en Comunidad”, an IFS program focused on the unique needs of the Latinx
community. He will continue his work at IFS as a therapist, clinical supervisor, trainer, author,
and activist.
Dr. Chevez has also worked as a lecturer and as a coordinator of programs implemented by the
state of New Jersey that offered technical and educational assistance to residential addiction,
behavioral health facilities, and prevention coalitions throughout New Jersey. His research and
work have focused on themes of intersectionality, equity, education/professional training, social
determinants of health, and substance use among communities that have been marginalized. Dr.
Chevez has a wide range of experience in providing services for populations that have been
disproportionately impacted by HIV/AIDS, domestic violence, immigration issues, tobacco
dependence, and opioid use disorder. With a cross-over in urban systems, wellness, and
business, he is deeply engaged in replicating models of healing that are sustainable and just.
